Listen
Put on some of your favourite music and sing along as if nobody can hear you! Singly with confidence can help your child to do the same. They won’t care how it sounds! Maybe you could learn one of your favourite Christmas carols to sing together without music. Singing together is so much fun and why not have a dance too?
Move
In mindfulness, we practice slowing down, so we don’t feel so rushed all the time. Try playing in the leaves and playing “Slow-Fast-Slow.” As your children play, ask them do move slow, then fast, and then slow again.
Talk about what it felt like. Did it feel different? Did you like moving more slowly, or do you like to be quick?
Play
Wearing a blindfold requires real trust and can also be a lot of fun. Draw a simple snowman on an old cardboard box or sheet of wrapping paper. Make an orange triangle for the carrot nose and stick a little blue tac on the back of it. Take it in turns to be blindfolded and attempt to stick the nose in the right place. Have fun!
Taste
Find a simple recipe online and enjoy weighing out and mixing up the ingredients together. Talk about the smells and textures you can feel. While the biscuits are baking watch them and notice how they change. Finally, mix up some simple icing and decorate. Share your delicious goodies once they are ready and encourage your child to really notice all the different tastes and sensations and then describe them too you. What flavours do they notice?
