About Group Support

All parents need a support network, it is not a job that can be done completely alone. Home-Start Kernow groups are there to provide a place in which to connect, build confidence and find support. That support will come from other parents, our volunteers and from a trained group support worker.

The activities at group promote strong attachment and good early years development. They will always be planned with resources and ideas that are easily replicated at home. The group provides an opportunity for babies and young children to socialise with other parents and children. We link closely with health visiting and provide information on development in all the key areas but with a particular focus on social/ emotional and communication.

Groups are countywide with Stay & Play groups in Bodmin, Callington, Camborne, Hayle, Helson, Launceston, Liskeard, Newquay, Penzance, Saltash, St Austell and St Dennis, Walking groups in Helston, Penzance, Truro and Saltash and Twins & Multiple Birth Stay & Play in Falmouth and Saltash.  

What can we offer?

• Approximately 6 months of group support: most groups operate every week during term time. The majority of families will get 6 months of group support, some may be offered places for longer if additional support is needed or needs change.
• Support to engage. We know that some parents might find it quite challenging to come along. If this is the case, group workers can offer supportive phone calls and texts and where necessary a home visit before group attendance. We will try to engage for 3 months before closing.
• Information, advice and guidance on a huge range of parenting topics. We aim to link into as many services locally as possible including library, health services and education.
• Onward referrals and signposting to other services where needed.
• Information and support to move on to other services once our group support concludes.

If you are a family that would like to join one of our groups,  please contact us by filling in the Join A Group form below.  A member of our team will contact you to confirm availability & a start date. Please do not attend the group until this has been confirmed.
