This year, Home-Start Kernow will be proudly represented at the London Marathon by an incredible supporter who stepped up when it mattered most.
Long time supporter of Home-Start Kernow, Kate was originally selected to run the London Marathon for us and had been training hard for the challenge. Sadly, during one of her training runs she broke her foot and was no longer able to take part. In a wonderful show of family spirit and determination, Kate’s brother Tom has stepped in to take her place and run the marathon on her behalf.
Tom will now be running the 26.2 miles through the streets of London to raise vital funds for Home-Start Kernow, helping us continue our work supporting families with young children across Cornwall.
“I’m incredibly proud to be running the London Marathon for Home Start Kernow,” says Tom. “The place was originally for my sister Kate, but after she sadly broke her ankle, I’m stepping in to take on the challenge for her. It’s a huge privilege to help raise money for a charity that makes such a real difference to families in Cornwall.”
Kate had been looking forward to representing Home-Start Kernow on the big day and, while she’s disappointed to miss out, she couldn’t be happier that Tom is taking on the challenge.
“I was really excited to be selected to run the London Marathon for Home Start Kernow,” Kate explains. “Unfortunately, I broke my foot during one of the training runs. Thank you to my little brother Tom who is stepping in at the last minute and representing me and the charity on the big day. Good luck Tom!”
At Home-Start Kernow, we know how powerful family support can be. Tom and Kate’s story is a brilliant example of that, stepping in for one another, offering encouragement, and working together to make a positive difference. Values like these sit at the heart of everything we do.
Every pound Tom raises will help Home-Start Kernow support local families who may be facing isolation, mental health challenges, financial pressures or the everyday difficulties that come with raising a young family.
Running the London Marathon is a massive challenge, especially at such short notice. We are incredibly grateful to Tom for taking on this challenge with such generosity and enthusiasm. We are also hugely thankful to Kate for her commitment to the charity and for passing the “baton” to her brother when things didn’t go to plan.
If you’d like to support Tom on marathon day, please consider making a donation or sharing his fundraising page with friends and family. Your support will help ensure Home-Start Kernow can continue to be there for families when they need us most.
From all of us at Home-Start Kernow, thank you Tom, and good luck on the big day, we will be cheering you on!
